I lived in the Fountain Square neighborhood of Indianapolis for years-- very working class, very white, very Trumpian. I have great relationships with my old neighbors there still and visit them frequently and stay in touch. I also live in and grew up the working class South-- I was raised with Confederate flags, homophobia, etc. Thus, I know who we can be. I find that if you are respectful, kind, and don't act like you seethingly hate someone they usually are pretty decent to you, too.
